It certainly feels like summer is over, and winter’s on its way.

One area of the home that you might not consider at this time of year is the garden. Summer may be gone, but there’s till plenty you can do to prepare your garden for Spring: think of it as the start of next year’s growing season, not the end of this one.

Begin with a good clear up: remove any spent plants, leaves and weeds. Think about pruning other plants back to prepare them for a healthy growth in Spring.

Add these clippings to your compost if you have one: winter’s actually a great time to start composting, if you don’t already.

Protect and prepare your garden with around 5 to 10 centimetres of mulch.

Finally, the safest bet for plants in containers is to move them indoors.
