With some experts predicting the cost per litre could reach as high as $1.70.
Considering that fuel can be the second single biggest household expense per week after housing, what can you do?
Fortunately, there are quite a few websites, such as MotorMouth, the RACV, NRMA, and WA’s Fuel Watch, that let you search for the cheapest petrol by suburb.
The difference can be remarkable: the RACV website, for example, lists a high in Melbourne of 159.9¢, with a low of 144.9¢ – a difference of 15¢ (Tuesday 27 May 2008).
So before you pop down to your local petrol station, a trip online could save you quite a bit.
