Ever thought about buying a boat?

August 7th, 2008 · No Comments

After your home, it could well be the second biggest purchase you make. And you should be just as cautious.

There’s a well known saying: the happiest day of a boat owner’s life is the day they buy it, and the day they sell it.

There’s no doubt it’s part of the Australian dream. So, if you’re thinking about boat ownership, some suggestions.

First, go boating with friends. See if you really like it – and ask about the practical aspects.

If you decide to go ahead, do your homework. Visit a boatshow, search online, and think about where you’d use it, when you’d use it, and who would use it.

When you buy, consider a second-hand boat to begin. Something you won’t worry about banging against the jetty as you get used to it. Also go for quality rather than quantity.

Finally, you can spread the costs by going in as a partner with friends, family or colleagues. You’ll get more boat for your money, and share ongoing expenses.
